The Director of Communications of defunct gold dealership firm, Menzgold, Nii Armah Amartefio has revealed that he was recently given marching orders from a bidding event after the organizer accused him of defending the embattled CEO of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM 1.
According to him, he was told he couldn’t participate in the bidding process because he backed NAM 1 whom the organizer referred to as a fraudster.
He made the disclosure while sharing his experience on how life has been difficult for both staff and customers of Menzgold several months after the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) ordered the firm to cease operation.
Several thousands of Menzgold customers have had to go through very tough times after their life savings were locked up with the firm. There have been reports of about 15 customers of Menzgold dying after they failed several times to access the funds.
Nii Armah Amartefio in an interview with host Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM Wednesday stated that he’s a living witness to the hardship the customers are going through.
He added that most of the Menzgold staff including himself have also bore the brunt of the collapse of the business.
“I’m into events planning and I recently went to bid for business so there were three of us and we were called by the firm to defend our bid. When I got there and was about to make my presentation then the Chairman of the Bid Committee asked me what’s my name. I responded my name is Nii Armah, he watched me carefully and said, are you not the PRO for Menzgold? I said yes, and he replied you’re the one who always defends that fraudster. He said his family members had invested in Menzgold, he got angry and sacked me from the office. I was shocked and I walked away quietly, it has not been easy over the period say way with the customers. It hasn’t been easy for most of them having to fend for their families when their funds are locked. We’ve been told about 15 custormers of Menzgold have died after their hard earned monies were locked, I’m a witness to the hardships many of them are going through.” Nii Armah said.
Meanwhile, NAM 1 was acquitted and discharged by a Court in Dubai, Tuesday, April 9, 2019, following allegations of fraud charges levelled against him by an Emirati citizen.
Following his release by the court, expectations are high for his return to Ghana to settle the thousands of aggrieved Menzgold customers.
However, per the court’s ruling, the complainant has one month within which to make an appeal against the court’s ruling.
That means should the complainant exercise his right of appeal, the case may drag for some time, making it impossible for Nana Appiah Mensah to return home as expected.
Should the complainant decide not to exercise his right to appeal, that means NAM 1 should be expected home (Ghana) within the second week of May, 2019.
