Accra, Oct. 6, GNA - The Inspector-General of Police Nana Owusu-Nsiah on Wednesday directed all Regional Commanders to continue to give protection to Presidential Candidates and Running Mates of all registered political parties.
In addition, all Regional, Divisional, District and Unit Commanders are to take prompt action against any person or group of persons, who unlawfully removes posters belonging to political opponents, or disrupts and attacks life and property during campaigns.
The Inspector-General of Police gave these directives at an emergency Regional Commanders Conference at the Police Headquarters.
The IGP reminded the Regional Commanders that they had an obligation to protect all law-abiding citizens and ensure that all those, who violated the laws, were brought to book without any discrimination.
Nana Owusu-Nsiah asked the Commanders to ensure that personnel working under them maintained high professional standards at their duty points.
He also asked the Commanders to ensure that they held regular welfare meetings with their personnel to ensure effective internal communication in the Service.
The Regional Commanders presented reports on policing within their regions and strategies to ensure peace and security, especially during the ongoing electioneering campaigns.
They also discussed the new Political Parties Code of Conduct; The Public Order Act; Electoral Laws and welfare issues.
