IGP leaked tape: Appointment of IGPs must be consultative – Report

A special Parliamentary committee investigating the leaked tape involving the Inspector General of Police (IGP) recommends a consultative nomination and appointment process for the IGP, involving key security and intelligence stakeholders.

The committee urges the president to ensure the nominee demonstrates political neutrality, patriotism, and professional competence, free from political influence.

The committee also calls for a review of Article 202(1) of the 1992 constitution and advocates for parliamentary approval of the IGP nominee to safeguard the process from political manipulation and maintain public trust.
