Contractors on the Accra-Kumasi Highway bypasses are struggling due to uncovered pits left by illegal miners in Osino, Anyinam, Enyiresi, and Konongo.

These pits create swampy areas, worsened by rain, hindering progress on the 41.8km project aimed at reducing congestion and crashes.

Dolittle Kwaku Sintim-Aboagye of STIM Limited, the consulting firm for the Osino bypass, highlighted compensation issues, mining terrace ponds, and severe rainfall as major obstacles.

Efforts to address these involve filling swampy areas with boulders and decommissioning ponds, with support from the Ghana Highways Authority and the ministry.
