The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has warned that the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in July 2024 may be canceled due to severe funding shortages.

Despite needing ₵95,837,306, the government has only provided ₵2,284,618, leaving a shortfall of ₵93,552,688.

WAEC's Director of Public Affairs, John Kapi, stressed the urgency of the situation on Joy FM, urging immediate financial support.

The Education Committee in parliament has called for a meeting with key ministers to address the funding crisis. Persistent inflation has further strained the education sector, underscoring the need for swift government action.
