Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has revealed that he intended to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race in 1996 against former President John Agyekum Kufour.
Speaking on Ezra Radio, Kyerematen disclosed that his candidacy at the time caused concerns within the party, leading senior members to persuade him to withdraw.
“They realized Alan Kyerematen could win the contest and sent people to beg me to step down. Appiah Menka even wrote in his book that the only person who could have beaten Kufour was me,” Kyerematen said.
Kyerematen, who left the NPP in 2024 following a disappointing primary performance, also questioned Kufour’s recent support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasizing the long-standing dynamics within the party.
