The Ministry of Information has defended the payment of over 150,000 Ghana cedis to staff who worked during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The Auditor-General's report questioned this remuneration, directing the Ministry to refund the 151,500 cedis paid without approval.
The report noted that senior management and supporting staff received these funds as a Covid-19 risk allowance.
However, Mawuli Segbefia, Director of Finance and Monitoring, stated that the allowances were part of a plan submitted to the Ministry of Health for approval, aimed at motivating staff who reported to work daily during the lockdown to assist in the Covid-19 response.
