Prof. Samuel Kojo Kwofie, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Ghana, has called for investment in artificial intelligence (AI) training, research, and technology development to improve health and alleviate poverty.
He believed AI can reduce the healthcare gap between urban and rural communities. Prof. Kwofie outlined a comprehensive roadmap for harnessing AI's potential in Africa, including supportive policies, infrastructure, and ethics review committees.
He also stressed the need for investment, scholarships, and effective intellectual property and technology transfer mechanisms.
Addressing challenges and concerns, he highlighted the need for culturally adapted AI solutions and ethical considerations.
