JB ‘killers’ appear at High Court

Daniel Asiedu, the self-‘confessed’ killer of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North and his accomplice, Vincent Bosso, yesterday made their first appearance at an Accra High Court after their committal to stand trial.

The two suspects were on February 6, 2019, committed by an Accra Central Magistrate Court to stand trial for the murder of the late JB Danquah-Adu, who was murdered in his home at Shiashie in Accra in February 2016.

The case has been listed before a criminal court presided over by Justice Charles Ekow Baiden.

The court could however not sit as some of the High Court judges were said to have been attending a meeting.

The case was subsequently adjourned to March 21, 2019, when a jury would possibly be empanelled and the pleas of the accused taken.

The key suspect, Daniel Asiedu, has on two occasions during the committal proceedings ‘confessed’ to the court that he murdered the late MP but said he did it alone and his accomplice had nothing to do with it.

He said he had planned the murder with some other people but has not seen or heard from them again since he was arrested.

He also told the court that his initial statement that some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) contracted him to kill the MP is not true as his contractors are rather members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Committal

The two accused persons were on February 6, 2019 once again committed to stand trial at the High Court.

This follows the presentation of the facts and exhibits by the Office of the Attorney General on Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy Don Don and Vincent Boso alias Junior Agogo who according to the state murdered the late MP.

Daniel Asiedu, who according to the prosecution stabbed the late MP multiple times in the neck and chest, is facing three charges of conspiracy, robbery and murder, while his accomplice has been charged with conspiracy to rob.

Sefakor Batse, a senior state attorney who represented the AG told the court presided over by Magistrate Arit Nsemoh that the state has 29 exhibits and 11 witnesses to prosecute the case at the High Court.

The court after listening to the prosecution, committed the two to stand trial at the High Court, saying they have a case to answer.

This will be the second time the accused have been committed to stand trial after the AG entered ‘Nolle Prosequi’ on May 29, 2017 and the suspects were re-arrested.
