Relatives of the late J.B. Danquah-Adu are demanding that his former lover, Yaateley Nettey Yirenkyua, be questioned by the Police over his murder.
The paternal family told Class News in an interview that it was important Danquah-Adu’s estranged lover is questioned as part of efforts to unravel the mystery surrounding his death.
A Kyebi royal in the Eastern Region, who described herself as the spokesperson for the Danquah family in both Kyebi and Adadientem, Nana Anima Odaa, said the Police have already told them they intend questioning the said lady in connection with the murder.
The late Abuakwa North MP was killed at his Shiashie residence in Accra on February 9. The Police have arrested one Daniel Asiedu, 19, as the prime suspect. He has been charged with murder. Although he has confessed to the killing, the suspect told the court on his first appearance that he went to the late MP’s residence to steal, but not to kill. Mr Danquah-Adu’s relatives, however, believe the suspect was contracted to do the killing.
They are planning a demonstration against the police, whom they accuse of concealing and changing certain facts about the murder.
“I don’t know what is happening because what the guy [suspect] said from the beginning has changed. The guy said some people gave them money to kill my brother and they were three,” she stated in an interview with Class News’s Emefa Apawu on Wednesday 17 February 2016.
According to her, “fortunately for them [suspects], there are some people covering them”.
According to her, the police necessarily must probe the late MP’s girlfriend because “the lady and two young men attempted to kill my brother [some time ago] in the lady’s house, but by God’s grace he survived. So, why haven’t they been invited? Are they not in Ghana?” she questioned, adding: “If this is what will happen then where lies our fate?”
According to her, the family doubts that the suspect moved all the way from Agbogbloshie to Shiashie just to steal the late MP’s phones, as he claimed. “Is it because of a mobile that he moved from Agbogbloshie to Shiashie? Who will believe this story?”
