Join NaBCO and forget criticisms – Eastern Regional Minister

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour has advised unemployed graduates not to listen to the political criticisms of government’s newly outdoored Nation Builders Corps (NABCO).

Instead he urged them to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the policy.‘’We can hear undertones behind the scenes, admonishing our youth not to take part in the Nation Builders Corps, ’’he said.

Mr Darfour made these remarks at the graduation ceremony for 515 Community Protection Police (CPP) at Koforidua.

He explained that though the programme was an interim one for a period , it could help them to reduce their dependence on their families and make them independent.

The Community Protection Police is one of the modules under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and that was the fourth batch that graduated under the module which brings the total number of youth trained for community protection to 12,000.

The Regional Minister said youth unemployment had been a major challenge for successive governments over the years and kept compounding.

He said the consequences of this unfortunate situation was not felt by families alone, but the country at large since the contributions of the youth to the growth and development of the economy was missing.

Mr Darfour urged the newly graduated recruits to take the opportunity to build their interest in policing and aim at becoming professional police personnel in future.

The Eastern Regional YEA Director, Mr Jerry Osei Poku who spoke to the media in an interview, said his outfit partnered state institutions to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.

He however said in as much as they tried to create the jobs they also looked at the ills of the society so that the jobs created would help resolve some of the challenges facing the country.

He said the community protection graduates would be deployed into the various areas to serve as intermediaries between the public and the police and help to ensure discipline and safety.

The overall best academics recruit, Ms Leticia Tetteh said being a CPP she was going to help the police to obtain intelligence as well as protect life and property.

Two other recruits, Ms Regina Sarfoa and Gideon Asamoah were awarded for being the best in drill and best in conduct respectively.
