Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has disclosed that members of the judicial service will undergo training on cybercrime at the National Cyber Security Centre.
Delivering her remarks at a workshop at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), Madam Ursula Owusu-Ekuful explained that the training would ensure that staff of the judicial service gain the requisite knowledge on cybersecurity.

This initiative, she believed, would prepare them in readiness for future cyber-attacks against the judiciary.
“A breach of the system or data would have very serious implications. In this regard, the Ministry of Communications, through the newly established National Cyber Security Centre will further engage with the Judicial service to provide cyber security training for staff of the judicial service towards a cyber-secured culture among employees of the judicial service,” Ursual Owusu-Ekuful told the judges gathered at the KAIPTC library.
She highlighted the relevance of cybersecurity within the judicial administration, emphasizing the need for judges, staff and court users to ‘become conscious of cybersecurity’. This, she believed, would enhance the justice delivery system in the country.
“It has been established through research that, judges’ understanding of information technology, cybercrime issues as well as matters pertaining to digital evidence affect their rulings on cases. This is because the domain of cybercrime is relatively new to the courts. It is therefore important that we build our capacity in this area to enhance our justice delivery,” she added.
As part of activities to climax the 2018 National Cyber Security Awareness month, the Ministry of Communications in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Centre organized a judicial training cybercrime and electronic evidence for judges of the Supreme Court at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.
