The darling boy of former President John Dramani Mahama, Mr Julius Debrah, has in a subtly way declared his unflinching support for a presidential hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin ahead of the party’s presidential primary.
Mr Debrah who served under Mr Mahama as Chief of Staff could not hide his admiration for Mr Bagbin when the latter visited him last week.
Describing him, as a man of exceptional leadership qualities”, the close pal of Mr Mahama said, “Mr Bagbin is a great leader; he is a man who seldom talks, but when he does, he speaks the unpalatable truth,”.
Mr Debrah is not the first NDC stalwart to have seen Mr Bagbin as a saviour for the party in the 2020 elections.
It will be recalled that, a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu last year at an NDC gathering in Tema stated that, Mr Bagbin, ,“is a presidential material”.
According to Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu, who is a national Vice Chairperson of the NDC, “Mr Bagbin is a seasoned lawyer with vast experience in governance and politics”.
The former Chief of Staff made this observation when Mr Bagbin visited him last Thursday to commiserate with him on the death of his mother few weeks ago.
“He (Mr. Debrah) by his words has chosen Mr. Bagbin over his former boss, Mr Mahama in our presidential contest”, a member of Bagbin’s campaign team told Today at the weekend in an interview.
According to Mr Debrah, “Mr Bagbin is a man who belongs among the greats”.
“I consulted him a lot when I was Chief of Staff, because he is like an elder brother to me. This is the man who encouraged me a lot when I was in the Eastern region, rallied a lot of support for me and pushed for my elevation within the party,” Mr. Debrah recounted.
Mr Bagbin, who went there to mourn with him as tradition demands, was warmly received together with an entourage that included; Mr Joseph Naabu Bipoba, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yunyoo, and Mr Raymond Kuudaah, General Manager of Mr Bagbin’s Flagbearership campaign Secretariat.
Mr Bagbin who confirmed the warm relations assured Mr Debrah of his support in his time of bereavement, and donated some cartons of water towards the funeral rites of the former Chief of Staff’s late mother.
Others with Mr Bagbin during the visit were; Mr Emmanuel Wilson, Communication Director for Bagbin’s Campaign team and Mr Stephen Ashitey Adjei, alias Moshake, a delegate and executive member of the Tema East branch of the NDC.
Madam Kate Pokua, mother of Mr Debrah passed on July 15, 2018 at the age of 73
as an elder brother and a long time source of inspiration.
