Trade and Industry Minister KT Hammond is set to present a legislative instrument (LI) to regulate cement prices after cement manufacturers boycotted a stakeholder meeting on July 1, 2024.
Concerns about rising cement prices, now averaging GH¢105 per bag, prompted the government's move.
Major manufacturers, including GHACEM, Dangote, and others, boycotted the meeting due to unexpected media presence, intended as a closed-door session. Despite their walkout, Hammond addressed the media, emphasizing state interests.
The National Democratic Congress criticized the LI, calling it harsh, while Cuts International urged Parliament to reject it.
