Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education will be briefing Parliament on the recent deaths at the Kumasi Academy (KUMACA).
Member of Parliament for Akasti North and Ranking Member on the Committee on Education, Peter Nortsu, said parliament can only step in after the sector minister has briefed the House on the issue.
Two first-year students of Kumasi Academy in the Ashanti Region died after being affected by an unknown ailment. They were rushed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Hospital on Friday, 1 December for emergency treatment.
Three others were also admitted at the same hospital. An autopsy carried out on one of the students could not reveal clearly the cause of death.
Speaking on the development in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, 5 December, Mr Nortsu said: “Parliament will be meeting the minister of education this week on this matter.
“We will decide on the next line of action after he has briefed us. We work hand-in-hand with the minister and so we are relying on him for information to act on.”
