Ken Agyapong must accept his utterances were wrong - Kissi Agyabeng

The lawyer of Investigative Journalist, Anas Amereyaw Anas, Kissi Agyabeng has said that Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central whose utterances months ago suggested threats on the life of the assassinated journalist would have been picked by the police if he was an ordinary Ghanaian.

“The philosophy behind the law is not only to call for your arrest when you err but the mere thought of committing the crime and so per the utterances of the Member of Parliament, he had abated crime,” he said.

Lawyer Kissi added that, even if Ahmed had not died or nobody had tried to hurt him, the utterances of the Member of Parliament was a threat invite on the life of the uncover journalist.

Reacting to suggestions that Ahmed might have been killed by someone who has been affected in one way or the other by his work, the lawyer said, “we are not saying he killed Ahmed but the fact that he went on TV to make those utterances, that statement alone, inviting the whole world to harm him when they see him, that statement alone is a crime”.

According to him, the laws of the land can prosecute you for your utterances even though you may not have the intentions of committing that crime.

“You can be prosecuted for what you say, so be mindful of what you say and the member of parliament saying, I am putting money aside, get Ahmed beaten and hold me responsible, I will pay, that is a clear breach of the law,” he noted.

Lawyer Kissi Agyabeng was quick to add that Kennedy Agyapong shouldn’t have been allowed to leave the country due to the ongoing investigations.
