The Member of Parliament for the Asawase constituency and the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak has described the ‘civil coup d’etat’ comment by Koku Anyidoho as very needless and reckless and deserves a complete condemnation.
In an interview on Kumasi based Angel Fm with Kwame Tanko (KT), the deputy chief whip remarked that to the extent that the party dissociated itself from his comment shows the extent of irresponsibility displayed.
‘Kwame, when there’s a coup, there’s no political space. We won’t be here talking about NPP, NDC or this Koku’s statement. This is the only country we have’, he said.
He however called on the government to soften the charges and claims as the treason charge is tantamount to killing an ant with a bulldozer.
Daniel Okyem Aboagye (Wofa Atta), the MP for Bantama constituency who was also on the same platform intimated that what was bad yesterday is bad today and hence needs to be condemned outright.
He further indicated that, although in his own wisdom the treason charge is not the best, the laws should be allowed to deal with him [Koku Anyidoho].
Koku Anyidoho was yesterday arrested in a rather dramatic fashion during the day, when an audio captured him making seditious comments and inciting civilians to launch a coup d’etat against the Akufo-Addo government on Accra-based Happy FM.
A dozen armed men in pickups and a V8 vehicle, besieged the premises of the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra at about 1:25pm Tuesday afternoon to effect the arrest of the NDC capo.
He is being processed for court on a charge of treason.
