Koku not under any restrictions; gadgets not seized – Adawudu

Having reported to the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters after being released on bail, lead counsel for NDC Deputy General Secretary Koku Anyidoho has disclosed that the politician has been given unlimited freedom of movement despite being under investigations for treasonable comments.

“What I can say is that the reason why the sureties came in is that anytime we’re looking for him you produce him. So that is the only condition that he has to… there is no restriction, he has some freedom as at now until that albatross that has been hung around his neck is taken off, he’s a free man for now” He noted.

Contrary to reports that the NDC Deputy General Secretary’s electronic gadgets such as laptop, phones, iPad were seized, Mr. Adawudi indicated that it was not the case.

“To the best of my knowledge, no gadgets of his has been seized. What I can only say is that whilst we were talking, chatting one of our phones got to the police officer… Nobody has seized any gadgets or any laptop and others, no, we’re yet to have it.”

Mr. Koku Anyidoho reported to the CID headquarters at 10:47 AM, 13 minutes earlier than the stipulated time in which he was given to report. He came in the company of his aide and some other individuals from the party.

Mr Anyidoho was charged with treason for suggesting that President Nana Akufo-Addo, like his father, will be overthrown in a civil revolt.

“On January 13, 1972, a certain Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong led a movement that removed the Progress Party from power. Busia was the Prime Minister and Akufo-Addo’s father was a ceremonial president. Somebody should tell Nana Akufo-Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself. There’ll be a civil revolt,” Mr Anyidoho said.

The comments have been described as “treasonable.



Mr. Anyidoho was subsequently picked up last Tuesday by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

His Oyarifa residence in Accra was also searched before he was moved from the police headquarters and sent to an unknown location.

He was subsequently detained by the CID and spent two nights in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations after which he was granted bail on Friday.
