The firebrand Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho spent Tuesday night in the cells of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) after he was relocated from the CID headquarters where he was being held after his arrest.
Mr Anyidoho who has been charged with treason is expected to be arraigned before court Wednesday (today) after Police conclude their investigations.
The former Director of Communications at the Presidency during the late President Mills’ regime had declared that there will be a civil coup to oust President Akufo-Addo.
Mr Anyidoho in an interview with Happy FM Monday stated that strategically planned series of activities are to kick-start from Wednesday, March 28, 2018 with a massive demonstration against the government in protest of the Ghana-US Military agreement which was ratified last Friday by Parliament.
“Somebody should tell Nana Akufo-Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself. On the 13th of January 1972, a certain Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong led an insurrection movement that removed the Progress Party in power. Busia was the Prime Minister, Akufo-Addo’s father was the Ceremonial President. Somebody should tell Akufo-Addo that history has a way of repeating itself, there will be a civil revolt, there’ll be a people movement. When President Mahama was in power, Let My Vote Count Alliance and OccupyGhana didn’t they say there were
“There’ll be a civilian coup d'état, there’ll be a social revolution. We’re starting on Wednesday, Akufo-Addo will have a headache, he’ll experience stomach upset, he says he was to be President of this country, we’ll make sure he’s fed up at the Presidency.”
Minister of Information, Mustapha Abdul Hamid had earlier hinted that Koku Anyidoho was likely to be invited by the National Security over his “treasonable” comments.
“As it is done everywhere in the world if people make treasonable comments, alluding to the fact that they intend to overthrow a government it will be important for the security agencies to have a chat with him to find out how he intends to that and if indeed there was a plot which is already at an advance stage.”
Mr Anyidoho was arrested at the Press Centre when the NDC at a press conference over the US military deal.
Anyidoho, however, refused to be arrested by the Police and decided to walk from Press Centre to the Police Headquarters to be questioned over his comments.
Some macho men prevented the Police from arresting and decided to walk him to the premises of the Police headquarters.
