The Concerned Citizens of the Komenda Traditional Area have notified the Ghana Police Service of their plan to protest against the lease of the Komenda Sugar Factory to an Indian firm.

Originally set for August 13 in Komenda, the demonstration is now scheduled for September 17, 2024, in Accra.

The group demands the reversal of the lease, insisting the factory should process locally grown sugarcane instead of importing raw sugar.

The protest will start at 6:00 am from the 37 Lorry Station and proceed to the Jubilee House, with at least 5,000 participants expected.
