Twelve people have been arrested for attempting to bribe the National Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Taskforce at Kwahu Adawso, Eastern Region, while smuggling 400 bags of cocoa beans.
The joint operation involved the Ministry of National Security, Formed Police Unit, and Ghana Cocoa Board.
The suspects, including drivers, boat operators, and loaders, were intercepted with two trucks headed for Togo. They offered a GH¢80,000 bribe, which was refused. This marks the third such arrest in Kwahu South Municipality in two months.
Municipal Security Chairman Emmanuel Atta Ofori Snr. commended the arrest and urged swift judicial action to deter future smuggling attempts.
