Lands and Natural Resources Minister Samuel Abdulai Jinapor has attributed the breakdown in Ghana’s mining sector regulation to neglect in properly equipping the Minerals Commission.
He criticized the centralization of the Inspectorate Division in Accra, which hinders effective oversight in mining areas.
Jinapor stressed the need to decentralize and enhance the Commission’s resources for effective regulation.
His remarks came during an inspection of a new office for the Commission in the Ashanti Region, set for completion in October 2024.
The GH¢80 million project will support mines in Ahafo, Asanko, and Obuasi, improving the Commission’s operational capacity and efficiency.
