Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has confirmed that 262 acres of the Achimota Forest will be returned to the Owoo family, the land's allodial owners.
This follows a controversy over President Akufo-Addo's Executive Instrument 144, initially aiming to reclassify 362 acres.
The reduction to 262 acres was negotiated to protect the forest's ecological integrity.
Jinapor clarified that the decision to return the land originated under President Mahama's administration in 2013, and the current government is legally bound by it. Stringent conditions have been set to prevent immediate possession of the land.
