The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is urging small-scale miners to lead the fight against illegal mining, which is harming water bodies and forests.

They warn that public pressure for a blanket ban on mining could harm the economy. The ministry emphasizes that responsible mining can benefit Ghanaians and the country.

Ernest Kumi, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia, noted that banning small-scale mining would affect millions of jobs.

Leaders in the sector are committed to removing illegal miners while stressing that responsible mining supports livelihoods for over 5 million people in Ghana.
