Low turnouts recorded as NIA mass registration exercise kicks off

The first day of registration for the National Identification card recorded low turnout at most centres in Accra.

Some centres visited by GhanaWeb had recorded less than 50 registration as at 1pm on Monday.

Coordinating Registration Officer at the Mataheko Old Faith centre, Ebenezer Asare Nti, speaking to the news team said only 20 people had registered for the card as at midday.

Read full article.said “the turnout is very low we started registration at around 7:30 am and we have gotten only 20 people to register”.

He was however certain that the numbers that troop to the centre will increase as the days go by.

Explaining the registration requirements, he said applicants must provide either a genuine birth certificate, a valid Ghanaian Passport or a valid certificate of acquired citizenship, with a Ghana Post Digital Address Code to be able to go through the process.



Applicants are also entreated to go along with their National Health Insurance Card, Voter Identification Card, Driver's License and SSNIT Biometric Card so they can all be captured.

The Ghana Card will replace other cards in the system and must be accepted by all institutions as a valid ID card.

Registration for National Identification card which commenced in the Greater Accra Region on Monday 29th April 2019 is expected to end in the Central Region on 6th June.
