Professor Stephen Adei, former Rector of GIMPA, has urged the Ghanaian government to classify grand corruption as a felony, similar to murder, to impose harsher penalties on offenders.

Speaking at the Ghana Integrity Initiative's 25th-anniversary event, he emphasized that corruption poses a major threat to national development due to insufficient leadership commitment.

Adei called for increased accountability and transparency, including mandatory asset declarations for public officials.

He highlighted the need for a more vigorous approach to combat corruption, drawing inspiration from countries like Rwanda and Denmark that have successfully addressed the issue.
