Man abandons wife at hospital

A man abandoned his wife who had given birth to a baby boy at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on New Year's day. Mr. Atta Donkor according to Miss Victoria Addai-Nimako, a Nursing Officer, claimed that Madam Attaa, his wife already has three boys and they were looking forward to having a girl.

Miss Addai-Nimako expressed surprise at the behaviour of Mr. Donkor and his family and pointed out that the sex of a baby is not determined by a woman.

The sperm of the man determines the sex of a baby, she explained. "If the man releases male sperms, the woman will deliver a male child, but if he releases female sperms, the woman will bring forth a female child", she explained further and said for this reason, men should not blame women for the sex of babies, Meanwhile, Madam Attaa and her baby have been sent to the Children's ward where they would be until she settles her medical bills. In all, 16 babies made up of nine boys and seven girls were delivered on New Year's day at the hospital. The first, a girl was delivered at 2:30 a.m. The South Suntreso Urban Health Centre recorded five deliveries made up of three girls and two boys.

At the University of Science and Technology (UST) Hospital, there were four births made up of three boys and a girl. Miss Comfort Frimpomaah, Nursing Officer said all the babies had been discharged.?GNA
