Former Attorney General Martin Amidu has criticized the government’s reshuffling of the Upper East Regional Minister just months before the 2024 elections.
He argues that this move destabilizes the Bawku Traditional Area, already affected by security and chieftaincy conflicts, potentially hindering voter turnout.
Amidu suggests the reshuffle could be a tactic to influence election outcomes, especially given the proximity to Vice President and NPP candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s stronghold in the North East Region. He warns against using “northerners as cannon fodder” in election-related violence and calls for genuine democratic integrity.
