Media General was strongly represented at the 24th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards held on Saturday, November 23 at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra.
Three journalists of the media giant won a combined four awards while its English-speaking television station, TV3, received a special award.
The station’s flagship morning show, New Day, won the Best Television Morning Show in English.
Portia Gabor, Evelyn Tengmaa and Peter Quao Adattor were the journalists honoured at the event, which also marked the 70th anniversary of GJA.
Portia Gabor won more awards as she received the Best Female Journalist of the Year and Best Transport & Road Safety awards.
Evelyn Tengmaa received the Best Political Reporter award while Mr Adattor was decorated with the Best Sports Reporter award.
In all, 39 journalists and nine media organisations were awarded.
They were selected from 368 entries.
‘Journalist of the Year’
Daily Graphic’s Doreen Hammond was named the overall winner – Journalist of the Year.
She dedicated her award to her family but observed that journalism has taken a worrying turn from what she knew years ago.
She called for improvement in the profession especially on the part of “slay queens”.
