The Medical Laboratory Professional Workers' Union (MELPWU) has announced a nationwide strike beginning June 17, 2024, due to the lack of Conditions of Service for its members.
The strike follows unsuccessful negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ministry of Finance, which the union deemed "disappointing."
The strike will affect laboratory services in public hospitals, including medical laboratories, blood banks, and pathology laboratories, and may impact healthcare delivery.
The union has been negotiating for nearly two years and has served a strike notice to relevant agencies.
