Midland gifts assault victim brand new house, hefty cash

Midland Savings and Loans Limited has given Patience Osafo a brand new house and a “generous” amount of money as compensation for the assault she suffered at the hands of Lance Corporal Fred Amanor within the hall of the financial institution a week ago.

The 36-year-old grandmother’s lawyer, Samson Lardi Anyenini, revealed on his show – Newsfile – on Saturday, 28 July that: “Well, to avoid a civil suit against Midland Savings and in compensation for the punches, trauma and embarrassment, we just closed a rather ‘generous’ deal that removes her from the kiosk to owning a brand new house; and from the streets hawking toffee to a woman now with multiple bank accounts”.

Mr Anyenini continued: “Yes, her worries no longer include how to feed her family and provide healthcare for the two months old baby. Her GHS270 savings account now holds a substantial sum. Her dilemma is simply deciding what dignified trade to invest in”.

“Patience is certainly overflowing with gratitude for the opportunity of a dignified life for herself and dependants”, he said.

The police officer, who has pleaded not guilty in court over the matter, got Ghanaians enraged after he was captured on video brutalising Ms Osafo in the banking hall in his attempt to get her out of the financial institution after closing hours.



The AK47-wielding officer repetitively punched and slapped the grandmother who was holding her 2-month-old grandchild at the time.

Apart from the compensation from Midland, some individuals and corporate organisations have also made private donations to the grandmother who, until her misfortune-turned-fortune, sold toffees on the streets for survival and slept in a kiosk.
