Parliament has proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations 2012 through a Legislative Instrument (L.I), expanding privileges to Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ministers of State.

The changes would allow these officials to fit sirens or bells on their vehicles, previously reserved for emergency vehicles, and exempt them from speed limit regulations.

These amendments aim to facilitate easier passage through traffic for designated officials.

Additionally, Parliament previously enacted the Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill 2020, which introduces stricter penalties for traffic offenses resulting in the death of an unborn child.
