Minority demands removal of Lands Minister, deputies over galamsey crisis

The Minority on the Works and Housing Committee has called for the immediate removal of the Lands Minister and his deputies, accusing them of failing to protect Ghana’s water bodies from illegal mining ("galamsey").

Ranking Member Vincent Oppong Asamoah believes that firing the ministers would lead to better outcomes.

He criticized the ministers for not safeguarding resources, noting that even the Deputy Lands Minister’s hometown is affected by galamsey.

This comes as the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) reports significant disruptions in water production due to mining in the Pra River, affecting regions like Cape Coast and Elmina.
