‘Money doubling’ tops offensive media content complaint list – NMC

The National Media Commission (NMC) reported 8,982 complaints about offensive media content from October 2023 to November 2024.

Money-doubling scams led with 3,722 complaints, followed by fake lottery scams (2,190).

Additional complaints included content on loans, occultism, and money rituals.

During a regulatory meeting in Accra, NMC Executive Secretary George Sarpong stated that licenses for Onua and Oyerepa TV might be revoked for broadcasting offensive content.

The NMC emphasized quality content to uphold democracy and society’s interests.

GJA General Secretary Kofi Yeboah highlighted the need for fair enforcement of media ethics and distinctions between suspension and revocation.
