My Communications Director may be 'ignorant' of party structures - PNC Treasurer

National Treasurer for the People’s National Convention (PNC), Akani Adams has slammed the National Communications Director of the party over his claims that, he [Akani] was incapable of issuing a statement over the ongoing brouhaha at the Electoral Commission (EC).

Akani Adams had issued a statement calling for the suspension of the EC chair, Mrs. Charlotte Osei and her two Deputies Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwaa.

The Treasurer in the statement said the three will jeopardize the 2020 polls if they should stay in office.

However, Emmanuel Wilson, National Communications Director for the PNC, described the statement from Akani as unfortunate.

He told Kwame Tutu that the statement did not represent the position of the party.

Akani he noted breached laid down procedures within the party because it was not in his position, to issue a statement since that remains a duty for the Acting General Secretary, National Chairman, National Communications Officer and other senior officers.

But reacting to the issues raised on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Akani Adams said, his officer who works under him, maybe ignorant if he says the treasurer had no capacity to issue such a statement.

He told Rainbow Radio’s Nana Adjoa Owusu that, the party has delayed in issuing an official position on such a sensitize matter whereas all other political parties including the ruling NPP, opposition NDC, and PPP have done same.

He was of the view that, the nitty-gritty of the issues should be discussed rather than the one who is to issue a statement.

He said as a national officer, I have every right to state my opinion on any matter and so far as I still occupy that office, I will continue to do so.

When asked if he issued the statement in his personal capacity, he said the statement represented his personal opinion. However, the statement also represents the views of majority of leadership.

‘’One of my core responsibility is to make my office active. How do I make my office active by sitting down and not contributing to what is going on? If anyone is talking about job description, then he does not know what he is talking about…I am not saying my Communications Director is ignorant but if anybody says that, the person is probably ignorant and doesn’t know what he is talking about.’’

He reiterated that the commissioners are not working together and that should be the worry for people to be talking about instead of focusing on his statement.

‘’We have not indicated those who are supposed to speak or not to speak…You don’t expect me not to address an issue that comes to my table as a politician,’’ he stated further.

‘’I am the National Treasurer and I am stating my position categorically. A large section of leadership share in my opinion,'’ he added.
