The National Organiser of the opposition NDC, Joshua Amidu Akamba has said the confusion that has characterised this year’s Placement of BECE candidates shows enough evidence of the government’s inability to manage the education system, and thus warrants the resignation of the Education Minister.

He made the call Tuesday, at the Black Star Square when he came to conduct his own assessment of the situation at the solution centres set up by the Computerised School Selection Placement System unit of the Ghana Education Service to address prospective Senior High School students having issues with their allotment.
Mr Akamba who was not impressed by the conduct of operations at the centre, bemoaned the way parents and students who have come to the centre to seek solutions to their problems are being handled at the centre.
“I am sad, I am sad for mother Ghana. I took the opportunity to come and visit the students and see, not evemt providing them with water. I have just advised the Coordinator of the CSSPS that he should put canopies for them. The police are telling mee that curiosity they are standing out of curiosity, so provide them with shade. You cannot put them in the sun to hang like that.”
He also expressed disappointment in the deployment of armed police and military officers at the centre, describing it as intimidating “innocent school girls who want their legitimate right.
He thus reiterated his call for the resignation of the Education Minister and in extension his subordinates.
“For me I think the government has failed. The education minister and all of them should get out from that office, they are failures.”
But responding to his allegations and calls, the National Coordinator of the CSSPS, Sasu Mensah Mark explained that the presence of armed officers at the centre was nothing short of ensuring safety and order at the centre.
“A security man must be always be prepared and ready. The fact that they are armed does not mean they are coming to harm anybody. If for example the is any crowd control incident what do you want them to do.”
He stressed that the officers are professionals who understand their work, and should be given the room to execute their work.
“I am not under the security aspect but I believe that at least we should give them the room to do their work. Sometimes when they are wielding the gun, it’s not a matter of firing it at somebody but it is just to scare them, so that they will not do anything that is inimical to the rules and regulations pertaining to this place.”
He also added the CSSPS is assiduously working to resolve all issues they are being confronted with.
