The Northern Regional executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the weekend donated relief items worth GH?20,000 to victims of Nakpanzoo in the Savelugu municipality whose community was hit by a rainstorm last Friday evening.
It left hundreds of the residents displaced and property worth millions of Ghana Cedis in its trail.
The victims were full of excitement when the regional executives of the NDC arrived in the community with bags of maize and packets of roofing sheets to ameliorate their plight.
The Regional Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila, who presented the items on behalf of the party, said it was the party’s effort to ameliorate the suffering of the community.
He said the regional executives were not donating the items for votes but to assist them out of their predicaments.
“We are not here to do politics but to only sympathise with you,” Alhaji Mobila insisted and said the donation was the beginning of more things to come their way as the regional executives were liaising with the leadership of the party to bring more relief items.
One of the displaced persons, Mahammudu Ziblim in an interview with the Ghanaian Times commended the Northern regional executives of the party for the gesture which had come at the appropriate time since most of them were depending heavily on relatives and friends.
Many houses and other structures at Nakpanzoo had roofs ripped off completely by the heavy wind and rainstorm that occurred.
