It seems directives from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu to political parties to denounce vigilante groups will not materialize.
According to the IGP, it is against the country’s laws for political parties to have such groups that have recently been disturbing the peace of the country.
But his caution has triggered the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC] to rather form new groups that will be used by the party ahead of election 2020.
The party’s Deputy General Secretary, Peter Boamah Otokunor told NEAT FM’s evening political show ‘Torchlight’ in an interview that preparations are underway for more vigilante groups to be birthed in the NDC.
According to him, they don’t trust the police for their safety.
“We [NDC] have it in mind to form vigilante groups ahead of 2020. We can’t rely on the police for our safety,” he told host Mac Jerry Osei Agyeman on Thursday.
