NDC’s Murtala ‘runs away’ from Nanton; now eyes Inusah Fuseini’s seat

Former Member of Parliament for Nanton Constituency, Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala appears to have thrown in the towel of ever going to parliament through the constituency that saw his defeat in 2016, making him a one-term lawmaker.

The former Deputy Minister of Trade who once contested the parliamentary primary in Tamale Central where he lost to the incumbent Inusah Fuseini has confirmed he will now move back to contest when the party opens nominations in the future.

The former Roads and Highways Minister MyNewsGh.com reported has officially announced that he will not be seeking reelection in 2020 with rumors suggesting he has fallen off with constituents.

Guess that could be the reason the outspoken Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala wants to try his chance with the hope that once he goes through the primaries, his victory is secured by virtue of the fact that the Tamale Central Constituency is a stronghold of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Confirming his intent on Tamale-based Diamond Fm, he said “I spoke with Hon. Haruna Iddrisu too. Even though he is not from Tamale Central. I spoke with Alhaji Hudu Yahaya. I spoke with Dr. Nashiru. I spoke with President Mahama.

President Mahama didn’t say I should go he will ask some people to give me the response later. He told me categorically that it was a very good idea…”

According to him, he has received the blessing of the incumbent to contest the Tamale Central seat adding “When I finally come, I will have to meet my family in Ziong. I will have to meet some elderly in the constituency. I will have to meet chiefs and religious leaders. And then, I will have to meet the constituency executives. And I will have to explain to them the decision I have taken. And the reason behind that decision…”.

Credible sources indicate that the former Mayor of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Abdul Hannan Gundadoo has been tipped to run for the seat and is likely to beat Murtala considering his association with constituents in and out of government and based on his human relations.

Many persons perceive Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala as an ‘arrogant’ person, a tag he may have to work hard to prove otherwise.
