NPP National Delegates Congress to be held on July 6 as planned

The much-awaited National Delegates Congress of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will come off from July 6 to July 8 at the Koforidua Technical University as scheduled.

About 600 delegates will go to the polls to elect the national executives of the NPP, who will steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The National Delegates Congress will commence on Friday, July 6, 2018 with a Muslim Jummah prayer session led by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at the Koforidua Central Mosque followed by social events in the evening.

The main conference will be held the following day, July 7, at the Koforidua Technical University park.

The conference will be in two parts – the first part involving speeches from outgoing executives and fraternal messages from other political parties, and the second part being the election itself. The final day, July 8, will feature a Thanksgiving service at the ICGC Jesus Temple in Koforidua.

Modalities for the National Delegates Congress

Addressing a news conference at the party’s headquarters, acting General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, disclosed that the party’s steering committee, as well as the National Council and NEC, have scrutinized and approved certain modalities for the 2018 NPP National Delegates Congress.

“The party at its steering committee meeting and a joint National Council and NEC meeting held on Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30 respectively approved modalities for the conduct of the forthcoming National Annual Delegates Congress,” Mr Boadu said.



According to him, the above-mentioned party entities consented to the theme ‘Building a stronger party: Delivering prosperity to Ghanaians’.

“The choice of this theme is based on the fact that the party indeed recognizes the need to build and strengthen its structures to become more formidable in order to sustain power so that it can continue to deliver prosperity to the Ghanaian people,” Mr Boadu added.

The party’s Acting General Secretary lauded the NPP government for championing majority of the monumental economic and social interventions in the country, highlighting the likes of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Capitation Grant, Metro Mass Transit, Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), Free Maternal Care, School Feeding Programme, stabilization of the nation’s economy, Free SHS, Planting for Food and Jobs, restoration of teachers’ and nursing training allowances, among others.

John Boadu posited that “if we continue to have the New Patriotic Party as the government, in power for the number of years that some of them (opposition) have been in power, Ghana will certainly not be the same”.
