NPP Polls: Gabby worried about Ada East candidate rejection

Former Executive Director of Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere – Darko has expressed worry about the refusal of delegates to acclaim a sole aspirant in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary.

Gabby, speaking on Joy FM's election analysis program; contends that delegates should know the party’s laws better because they are all elected members of the party.

He sees the situation as not too big a deal given the fact that the party was not likely to win the particular seat which has traditionally been a stronghold of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)

NPP Delegates in the Ada East Constituency earlier today surprisingly rejected their party’s unopposed parliamentary aspirant in the ongoing parliamentary primary. They refused to acclaim the candidature of Mr. Kanor Senakey because they claim he is an unknown person in the constituency.

Reports indicate that when the Electoral Commission’s officials were about to introduce him for acclamation, delegates refused to do so insisting that they wanted competition and not to acclaim a candidate.

According to them, Mr. Senakey was not their candidate of choice and that they wanted to revote in a fortnight when they would present their candidate of choice.

Meanwhile, the Constituency Secretary, Mr Gilbert Amanor, told an Accra-based radio station that the vetting committee had approved the candidature of Mr Senakey adding that the Constituency chairman would decide the next step to take in handling the matter. Malik Abubakar | Ghanaweb
