Ghana’s main opposition leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has taken a commanding lead in the social media race ahead of the 2016 general elections.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer has over 1,060,217 Facebook Likes as of Tuesday (October 18) as against his main rival President John Dramani Mahama’s 1,046,920.

The leader of the Dankwa-Busia-Dombo tradition has opened a gap of about 13,297 Likes on Facebook as the duo keep an active page to engage their followers about their activities on the campaign trail.

The Convention People’s Party’s Ivor Greenstreet has a paltry 30,455 Facebook followers.

However, in the space of the Microblogging platform – Twitter – Mahama dwarfed the NPP leader with over 277, 000 followers as against 112, 000 respectively.

Mahama, who is leading the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 polls, is locking horns with Akufo-Addo for the second time after the 2012 contest which ended in the Supreme Court.

After eight months of legal tussle the apex court of Ghana legitimized Mahama’s presidency.
