The special prayer session according to the letter was scheduled to take place in all police churches across the country.
The prayers are to call for “safety and divine protection” of all police, according to an invitation letter from the Religious Directorate of the Service.
“This has become very necessary and imperative considering the recent spate of adversarial killings of service officers… It behoves upon us as the clergy of the Service to beseech the divine protection for all serving officers” the letter said.
“We believe and are highly convinced that with divine intervention, the recent death shadow cast on the Police Administration would reduce if not wane out,” it added.
But in a recent statement issued by the Police Service and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Director of Public Affairs, Shiella Kissie Abayie-Buckman said "the Ghana Police Service debunks the false information making rounds in the media space to the effect that the Police Service will hold national prayer session on 4th February 2018 to help fight crime"
The statement went on to say "the Police Administration further assures the public that the Ghana Police Service seeks to become among the best ten Police services in the world. We are committed to carrying out our mandate with the mission to deliver security services in crime prevention, detention, apprehension and prosecution of offenders consistent with international standards"
The Police Service has urged all persons especially journalists and bloggers to cross check all information concerning the Service with the administration through the right channels.
