The Works and Housing Ministry in Ghana is exploring ways to protect vulnerable tenants from landlord exploitation, without intending to control rent charges.
Deputy Minister Dr. Prince Hamid Armah acknowledged concerns over high rent and long-term advance charges exceeding the six-month legal limit. The ministry aims to strengthen rent control laws and the department's capacity to enforce them.
During a visit to the rent control department, Dr. Armah mentioned plans to improve the department's digitalisation.
The ministry seeks a balance between protecting tenants and respecting the investments of landlords, ensuring a fair housing market.
