The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has criticized the recent increase in water and electricity tariffs announced by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

Effective October 1, 2024, electricity tariffs will rise by 3.02%, and water tariffs by 1.86%, due to exchange rate fluctuations, inflation, and gas prices.

GUTA’s Public Relations Officer, Joseph Paddy, argued that the increment is unjustifiable and will worsen the already high cost of living for Ghanaians, making life more challenging at a critical time.

He called on the authorities to reconsider the decision.
