Nine suspected illegal miners were arrested, and 23 changfans were destroyed along the Ankobra River in Prestea Nakaba by the government’s anti-galamsey task force, Operation Halt.

This operation is part of a larger initiative involving over 100 soldiers to combat illegal mining amid growing concerns from professional bodies and civil society.

In the Central Region, the task force also dismantled 10 changfans, seven water pumps, and seized illegal mining tools.

The crackdown aims to address the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining and restore Ghana’s natural resources.
