The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has refuted claims of defection from his camp following a visit by the former President, John Dramani Mahama to his constituency, Nadowli/Kaleo constituency.

Mr. Mahama who is seeking to be the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a third time visited Hon. Bagbin at Sombo, a community in the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency to mourn with him after the passing of his junior brother, Luke Baziing Bagbin.

The meeting of the two statesmen which hitherto was hailed as a good omen for the NDC was nearly marred when reports of defection from the Nadowli/Kaleo lawmaker who is also seeking to lead the NDC as its flagbearer, were made after Mahama’s visit.

One Isaac Baningen was reported to have stormed a campaign venue where the former President was interacting with delegates and some party faithful and disclosed his defection stating that Mr. Mahama was the best candidate to win back power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 general elections.

But addressing journalists, Monday, October 15, 2018, during the unveiling of a former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Fritz Baffour, as the Campaign and Communications Director for his team, Hon. Bagbin urged the public to treat the defection reports with all the contempt that they deserve since there is no an iota of truth in those publications.

“These are my team members. Nobody has defected. This is Team Bagbin and we are here working together. I’m sure they are talking about one young man in the constituency who has sour grapes and might have after losing the elections in the constituency, decided to do what he did. He is not a member of my campaign team at all.
