The Teachers and Educational Workers Union, (TEWU) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has charged the government to reinstate the Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso.

The Association is also calling on the government to dissolve any interim council inaugurated by the government following a violent demonstration by Students of the University more than a week ago

The government last week as reported by MyNewsGh.com, inaugurated an interim management council to run the affairs of the university for the next three months, and also directing that the university should be reopened within 14 days to enable academic work to continue.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education, the Interim Council is chaired by Nana Effah Apenteng, the Paramount Chief of the Bompata Traditional Area.

Other members are Prof. Mrs Rita Akosua Dickson, Dr Edward Baffoe-Bonnie, Ms Hilda Haggar Ampadu, Prof. Joshua Ayarkwa, Mrs Abena Antwi and Mr Kelvin Sah.

But Members of the Association on Monday embarked on a peaceful demonstration to express their worry over government decisions towards the University

The Members described the Vice Chancellor as the Messiah and are urging Education Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh to resign for failing to address KNUST issues.

Chairman of TEWU, Charles Arthur speaking after the demonstration said the government should with immediate effect dissolve any interim management council and bring back the old council.

He added that members of the Association do not recognize the government’s interim council.
