Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Ghana's Works and Housing Minister and MP for Ofoase Ayirebi, has firmly opposed illegal mining in his constituency's waterbodies, emphasizing the need to protect drinking water.
Speaking to constituents, he dismissed claims that political pressures should allow mining activities, stating, “We won’t allow people to mine on waterbodies here.” Nkrumah revealed he personally funds anti-mining raids, contributing about GH¢7000 each time.
He called for adherence to legal and environmentally friendly mining practices, stressing that proper methods exist to minimize environmental harm.
