Ofosu-Ampofo, Kwaku Boahen granted GHC100k bail each

The National Chairman of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has been granted bail in the sum of GHC100, 000 after appearing in court Tuesday.

Slapped with the same bail sum is a Deputy National Communication Director Kweku Boahen who is also standing trial alongside Mr Ampofo with both asked to produce one surety each.

They have been charged with conspiracy to cause harm and assault against a public officer following a leaked tape during a meeting with party communicators.

The Accra Commercial Court adjourned the case to Monday 6th May, 2019. The court directed the attorney general to submit to the accused all statements, the said audio and the charge sheet.

Meanwhile, Former president John Mahama made his way to Court to solidarize with Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and Kwaku Boahen.

Mr Mahama was in court with other leading members of the party including General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the duo’s legal team.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo is in Court over the leaked tape involving him in which a voice that sounds similar to him told party communicators that “we’re going to take her [EC boss] to the cleaners.”



“As for the EC chair, we must wage a relentless war on this EC chair. Me, she doesn’t want to see my face,”Ofosu-Ampofo allegedly said at the meeting which took place after the Ayawaso by-election.

He’d also incited the party communicators to verbally attack the Peace Council chairman Professor Emmanuel Asante.

Although both men have denied the charges against them, the Police have insisted the comments made by Mr Ofosu Ampofo in a leaked audio tape have implications for national security.
